Grew Up… in a strict, achievement-driven household. Melissa was always the perfect older sister – on paper, anyway. Her actual relationship with Spencer could use some work, but Melissa is too busy setting the standards (academically, professionally, socially) that Spencer will spend the rest of her life trying to meet.
Living… in the “barn,” which has been newly renovated (by Spencer) into a chic guesthouse on the backyard of the Hastings’ property. The barn became Melissa’s when she moved in with her fiancé, Wren, thus angering Spencer and causing even more tension between the sisters.
Visiting… Alison’s bedroom… on the night of her disappearance. What’s Melissa’s explanation for that one? Spencer is too scared to ask.
Relationship Status… does it matter? No matter who she’s dating – or engaged to – they always end up making out with Spencer behind her back.
Challenge… keeping her secrets from Spencer. Melissa has spun an intricate web of lies in order to keep her little sister from the truth, but one wrong word could be the only key Spencer needs to turn her sister’s puzzle into a simple trail of bread crumbs. Personality… erudite, opinionated, and a perfectionist. Melissa is a born leader – she always seems to be voted president of something, no matter where she is – but that doesn’t mean her success comes easily. Melissa has worked hard for everything she has achieved, and she never fails to demand the respect she deserves. Still, Melissa is just as fallible as anyone else – she can be selfish and cold, especially toward her younger sister, even if deep down she’s actually protective and loving.
