Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… in an “inconceivable” twist of fate. Vizzini, a cunning and respected criminal, has been charged with kidnapping Buttercup, the Princess-to-be in the land of Florin. Along with the reluctant help of two outlaws – Fezzik the giant and Inigo Montoya, a swashbuckling Spaniard – Vizzini attempts to outsmart everyone on his tail after abducting Buttercup while masquerading as “poor, lost circus performers.” Little does Vizzini know, he is not only being chased down by Prince Humperdinck of Florin himself, but also by a mysterious Man in Black. That latter well-dressed man is rumored to be the Dread Pirate Roberts, who is said to take no prisoners.

Profession… criminal mastermind. Just ask him. Vizzini schemes, he boasts loudly, and he believes that Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato are “morons” compared to him. After all, he’s a Sicilian, a fact of which he is very proud.

Interests… battles of wits, rewards, and his catchphrase, “Inconceivable!” Though Inigo (fairly) wonders whether Vizzini is using the word correctly.

Relationship Status… single. He’s not a very attractive man, and he knows this. And what with his penchant for capturing princesses, he’s unlikely to attract a significant other any time soon.

Challenge… evading the hunt of the Man in Black. When the Man in Black shows himself to not only be good at climbing mountains and surviving all sorts death-defying scenarios, Vizzini begins to take him more seriously, and maybe even fear him. (Not that he’d ever admit it.) But as long as he keeps his wits about him, Vizzini expects to win out in the end.

Personality… cruel, cunning, and bossy. Vizzini pushes around Inigo and Fezzik like they are children, even though he is much smaller and physically weaker than them. Although they have no respect for his ways, they must obey him in this instance. Vizzini is the brains behind this operation, whether they like it or not. Whether those vaunted brains will be enough to outsmart the Man in Black, however, remains to be seen.
