Grew Up... “Number One”—literally. Luther was born in a mysterious phenomenon wherein 43 women around the world suddenly gave birth, despite the fact that none of them were pregnant. Luther was one of seven of these babies adopted by eccentric billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who raised them to be part of a superhero team known as “The Umbrella Academy.” The kids were initially given numbers, not names, and Luther was top of the pack and de facto leader.
Living... on the moon. When the rest of The Umbrella Academy disbanded, Sir Reginald entrusted Luther with a secret mission that’s required him to live alone on the moon for the past four years.
Visiting... home. When Sir Reginald dies, Luther returns home for the funeral. The event provides the rare chance to see his adoptive siblings, Diego, Klaus, Allison, and Vanya—the one Hargreeves sibling without powers. They all immediately notice that even by his usual super strength standards, Luther’s looking noticeably bulked up these days...
Profession... professional superhero. Unlike his siblings, Luther never gave up on Sir Reginald’s work. As he had to remind his father, “You don't need to call me by my number anymore… I’m the only one left.”
Interests... all work and no play.
Relationship Status... single. Luther’s unending devotion to The Umbrella Academy has left him isolated from the rest of the world. He doesn’t have friends, much less a girlfriend. In fact, Luther has spent much of his secretly life pining after Allison. The two seemed to share a romantic connection in their youth, although Luther’s too nervous to ask if the feelings are mutual.
Challenge... saving the world. When Luther’s long lost brother Number Five suddenly reappears after a 16-year absence (in his 13-year-old body, strangely enough), he informs his siblings that the apocalypse is going to occur in eight days. Unfortunately, the old Umbrella Academy might just be too fractured to reunite against such an outlandish threat. But if anyone can bring them together, it’s Luther.
Personality... righteous, commanding, and loyal. Luther is seemingly everything you could want in a superhero leader. He’s morally upstanding, responsible, and deeply committed to his cause. Yet his buttoned-up demeanor can also rub people the wrong way. His rigid moral code doesn’t leave much room for fun, and he can be a bit self-righteous at times. Still, Luther is always the first to risk his life to help others. Beneath his hulking exterior beats a big heart—and a fair amount of social anxiety too.
