Johnny Utah

Living… in Los Angeles. He came out here from Ohio a month ago, having never seen the ocean before. He didn't think it would affect him so deeply. He wants to have the same relationship to the water as surfers. They seem to live in the water. Johnny envies that about them.

Profession… FBI agent. He's currently in pursuit of Bodhi and the Ex-President bank robbers. Wherever Bodhi goes, Johnny goes – from Tower Records to Assured Trust Savings and Loan. They make a hit, take it to Bodhi’s beach house and box it all up, load it in Bodhi's truck and take it to a public storage unit. Then they dump the vehicle and vanish. Johnny has all the pieces to the puzzle but doesn’t have enough to make the case stick yet. He’s waiting for his moment.

Interests… gathering evidence to tie Bodhi to the Ex-Presidents. The lab tests are showing traces of toxins, PCBs, selenium, titanium and arsenic. The beaches are always being closed because of waste spills. Since surfers are territorial, Johnny has the perfect plan: “If we can get some hair samples, and get a match to a certain beach, we'd know which break the Ex-Presidents surf. 

Relationship Status… single, with good-looking prospects. Tyler was the girl he’d tasked with teaching him everything he needed to know about surfing in order to break in with Bodhi's crew. She didn't think he was cut out for it first but he won her over with time. Something's developing between them but he’s hoping it lasts once this case is over. It doesn't seem like she wants to be tied down by anything.

Challenge… not getting too personally attached to Bodhi. The guy he killed was an off-duty cop. That alone should be enough for Johnny to go for this case with everything he has, and yet he’s fascinated by Bodhi. They're going to nail him one way or the other but Johnny doesn’t know if he wants to be the one who lays down the hammer. Bodhi has a death wish and he's not afraid to go all the way. Johnny has something to lose; Bodhi doesn’t.

Personality… straight-edge, naïve, and green. He was a big quarterback from the Ohio State football team before he moved out here. He’s been by the book his whole life. The surfers know he’s not one of them. The rest of the department sees him as the rookie. He’s got a lot to prove to a lot of people. His glory days mean nothing to them.
