Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up... in Chicago. Huey was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago along with his younger brother Riley. It was there that he discovered his passion for radical politics.

Living... in Woodcrest. After the death of their parents, Huey and his brother became their granddad’s responsibility. Using the children’s inheritance money, Granddad moved the family to the affluent, largely white, Maryland suburb Woodcrest. Naturally the town’s privileged culture clashes with Huey’s extreme progressive ideology.

Profession... left-wing Black militant. Like his namesake, Black Panther founder Huey P. Newton, Huey is a far-left activist for African-American rights. Those threatened by his revolutionary ideas – white people, mostly – have deemed him a domestic terrorist.

Interests... martial arts. Despite his young age, Huey is a formidable martial artist. Armed with a custom-built electrified glove, he was able to take down Oprah Winfrey’s legendary bodyguard Bushido Brown, the greatest black karate man who ever lived.

Relationship Status... single. Huey is still a child, so he’s not really interested in girls. Also, his single-minded devotion to his causes tends to keep potential friends, like his neighbor Jazmine DuBois, at a distance.

Challenge... starting the revolution. Huey’s goal is to get the oppressed people of the world to learn the truth about just how much the system keeps them down. He hopes this will lead to a worldwide revolution.

Personality... radical and determined. Pretty much everything Huey says and does is controversial. The world just isn’t ready to accept the knowledge he dishes out. As he says, “Jesus was black, Ronald Reagan was the Devil, and the government is lying about 9/11.” Unsurprisingly, not everyone agrees with Huey’s version of the truth. But that will never stop him.
