Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew Up… as a slave on the desert planet Tatooine. Darth Vader’s past is shrouded in mystery. The road to his current self was tragic and complex, and it’s a secret known by only a few Jedi.
Living… primarily in the Death Star, a giant flying fortress in outer space, the mothership and headquarters of the intergalactic Empire. Darth Vader is the military commander of the entire Empire, and second in command after the Emperor Palpatine. Darth Vader is part cyborg, kept alive only by his intricate robotic suit, fully equipped with a breathing apparatus and electronic limbs. He has a powerful grasp of the Force, albeit on its “dark side,” and thus has abilities such as telekinesis and even mind control.
Profession… a Darth, a high-ranking military commander. He is in charge of the Imperial fleet and often leads military attacks with ferocious bravery. He is feared by the Rebel Alliance, whose forces pale in comparison to the Empire’s squadrons of storm troopers and powerful lasers. When Darth Vader is rumored to be at the head of an attacking fleet, no one expects to get out alive.
Interests… dominating the galaxy, choking insubordinates, interrogation. Darth Vader seems to get a sadistic thrill out of threatening Princess Leia with torture, and he doesn’t betray any emotion whatsoever when he orders the destruction of an entire planet before her very eyes.
Relationship Status… single. Darth Vader’s romantic history is another long-lost tale only known by a few living souls. (SPOILER: See Anakin Skywalker.)
Challenge… crushing the “rebel scum.” Darth Vader puts all of his power into ensuring that the Empire rules the galaxy. He’s a worthy opponent and won’t relent until there are no more enemies standing in his path.
Personality… stoic, heartless, and wise. Darth Vader uses his deep understanding of the Force for domination. He rebukes the old ways of the Jedi, which argue that one should only use their powers to aid the less fortunate. Darth Vader seeks only power, burying the sorrows of his broken past in numb conquest.
