A mixture of action, romance, and high school drama,?Shakugan no Shana?follows the adventures of fiery fighter Shana and Yuji, the normal human boy who quickly proves to be more than he seems. From this premise, writer Yashichiro Takahashi builds a vivid world, full of complex spells and monstrous villains. With strong world-building, well-animated fights, and many strong female characters,?Shana's dramedy setup gives it something for everyone.
Cute, colorful, and fun, Tokyo Mew Mew has been well-received as an entertaining entry in the magical girls manga world. The story doesn't take itself too seriously, and there's plenty of cute outfits, sparkly backgrounds, and romantic storylines. Lurking somewhere underneath that is a environmental message, but it tends to take second place to the five girls' adventures. Artist Mia Ikumi's drawings are just as free-flowing and high-energy as the main character's personality. Tokyo Mew Mew is like a piece of cake—sweet and enjoyable.
Louise Francoise Le Blanc de La Valliere's name is so long and her spell-casting skills are so poor that everyone at the Tristain Academy of Magic just calls her "Louise the Zero." Louise's humiliation only increases during an important second year test, she inexplicably summons Hiraga Saito, a totally normal teenager from Tokyo. Now she's stuck with him and Saito's stuck with the lousy life of being a familiar.
While there is a decided lack of rumble in School Rumble, there is enough tangled love triangles for an entire semester of geometry.
