Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living. . .  in the nation of Ostania. Tensions are high between Ostania and Westalis, even after the established peace after a long period of devastating war. Working as a receptionist at the Berlint City Hall, Yor appears to live a peaceful life with her husband Loid and adopted daughter Anya, along with their Great Pyrenees Bond. Yor does her best to teach Anya important life skills.

Profession... assassin. Her normal family life is just the surface. In reality, Yor Forger, née Briar, also known as the “Thorn Princess”, is an undercover assassin. Yor makes coffee and tea during the daytime, and brings down high-ranking politicians at night, just to make it home in time to spend time with her family. It’s a delicate balance, and she is careful to not sustain any injuries during her missions to prevent suspicion from her coworkers or family. Fortunately, Yor is a pretty good assassin.

Relationships... married. Yor married Loid less than 24 hours after meeting him. Well, not exactly. Yor met Loid at a tailor shop, and after an eventful night where she helped Loid escape from his “hospital patients'' (in reality, they were part of an illegal art trade that Loid was tasked with ending, but Yor doesn’t know that), they agreed to “marry” each other. For Yor, this was a brilliant idea. Unmarried women in Ostania were typically apprehended about being potential spies, which would severely interfere with her ability to work as an assassin. She has no idea why Loid so easily agreed to it, but at the end of the day, if it works out, then she won’t question it.

Challenge... taking care of her daughter. Yor has assassinated countless people since she was a child, but her biggest challenge is being a mother. After all, there are very few skills that are transferable from being an assassin to being a parent. Although she can clean very well (a habit she picked up from cleaning up the scene after a kill), her cooking leaves much to be desired, which on a good day is on the verge of being edible. But, of course, her job as an assassin must come first.

Personality... ruthless and efficient, but also kind-hearted yet clumsy. These are the two sides to the Thorn Princess and Yor. Lor may seem a bit air-headed and quiet at times, but she is deeper and stronger than she appears. As Yor says to one of her targets, “I’m sorry to have bothered you… But could I choke the life out your body, Mister?”
