Xu Xialing

Grew up… at her father’s army compound in China. Xu grew up with her brother Shang-Chi, her mother and her father in China, as the family enjoyed prosperous times until her mother’s death. Her father was devastated by the loss of his true love, and he can’t believe she’s really gone. Angry and bitter, he has returned to his old life of violence by taking control of The Army of Ten Rings. Xu became an afterthought; her father was obsessed with getting revenge by training Shang-Chi to be an assassin. Her father didn’t train her because she was a girl, so she taught herself how to fight by watching the boys. After Shang-Chi ran away, Xu waited for him to come back. After realizing he wouldn’t, she also ran away.

Profession… owner of an underground fight club in Macau, China. Xu has built an empire and is very successful. She also fights at her own club, as her self-taught combat skills make her unbeatable.

Interests… fighting, protecting her brother, and showing her father she is capable of anything that a man can do. Xu is a master fighter, just like her brother; her weapon of choice is a chain attached to a knife/spade. Although she resents Shang-Chi for leaving her when they were young, she wants to protect him as she knows her father is a dangerous man. Part of Xu wants to show her father that she is worthy of being a warrior, but her resentment of her father dispels any notion of her wanting approval from him. 

Challenge… confronting her father. Thankfully, she has the help of Shang-Chi who has returned from living in America with his friend Katy. Deep down, she wants Shang-Chi and her to be close again, as they must prepare to take down their father, who is becoming a threat to everyone.

Personality… withdrawn, fierce and caring. Due to her harsh upbringing after her mother’s death, Xu has become a very antisocial person who has trouble trusting people, including her own brother Shang-Chi. She is a fierce fighter who backs away from no one, and although she beats people up constantly at her fight club, she will risk her life to save others.
