Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… in London.

Profession… “the money.” Vesper is an international liaison officer from the HM Treasury’s Financial Action Task Force. She is assigned to make sure James Bond properly manages the large sums of money provided by MI6 to adequately thwart Le Chiffre, a banker who financially supports terrorist organizations and profits off of the stock market shifts caused by their attacks.

Interests… success, fashion, and people reading. Vesper takes great steps to ensure she is taken seriously despite her beauty. She often uses clothing as a tool to manipulate people’s perceptions.

Challenge… coping with the violence attached to working with James Bond, especially when it involves her directly. She’s worried that her hands will never be clean of blood. She has absolutely no patience for James Bond’s arrogance, pettiness, or overly risky schemes, which is likely why she was assigned to make sure he doesn’t accidentally fund terrorism with government money.

Personality… quick-witted and sharp-tongued. Vesper is ambitious and a bit aloof at first impression, but she feels quite deeply. She often hides her emotions behind quick subject changes and deadpan sarcasm. After Bond purposefully tells a hotel receptionist his real name instead of his alias when undercover, Vesper doesn’t let him into the elevator with her, saying “Take the next one. There isn’t room enough for me and your ego.”
