Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Living… in Seaheaven, where he was born and raised. Actually, it’s the only town he has ever seen. He lives in a great Victorian house with a beautiful picket fence and pleasant neighbors. There is never a reason to leave. The town's motto says it all. "Seahaven: A Nice Place to Live."
Profession… life insurance salesman. It's a tough job, as death is not something anyone wants to think about, but Truman makes people genuinely consider the repercussions their unexpected death may have on their loved ones.
Interests… piecing together the strange things that have been going on in Seahaven. His life has lost its consistency and it is not as predictable as it used to be. Truman starts to think that the previous predictability was brought on by something else, perhaps even outside of his control.
Relationship Status… in a deteriorating marriage. Meryl and Truman have been married for years but she has always felt a bit distant to him. Truman feels as if she has been hiding something significant from him.
Challenge… taking control of his life. Truman starts to feel as if he does not actually have a free will – and this frustrates him to no end. What will he do when he discovers his entire life has been a construct put together for reality TV?
Personality… 100% average and normal. Truman is only interesting because he is not interesting at all, and in a way, that’s relatable to the American public. He is “real” and that is why people cannot stop watching him.
