Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Overview… a man who’s losing his mind. A machinist in a factory, Trevor hasn’t slept in a year and has become emaciated in that time. His crippling insomnia eventually leads directly to a co-worker getting his arm torn off in one of the machines. Trevor blames another worker, Ivan, for the accident, but no one else at the factory who knows who Ivan is and there are no records of him ever existing. Things only get worse for Trevor from there.

Personality… tortured, confused, and neurotic. Trevor doesn’t get along well with his co-workers in part because he gives him them a hard time about the rules. One of his methods of coping with his tormented conscience is to scrub his hands with bleach, and then wash the bathroom floor with bleach and toothbrush. “A little guilt goes a long way,” he says. Wracked with guilt, he scrubs to give penance; he scrubs to forget. The combination of his insomnia and malnutrition serves to send him further down the rabbit hole of his own pain and fears.
