Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew up… in a brighter world. Theo is old enough to remember the time before all hell broke loose and the world started deteriorating, before the global infertility epidemic started.

Living… in despair in the world’s last standing city, London, in the year 2027. In his words, “I can’t really remember when I last had any hope, and I certainly can’t remember when anyone else did either. Because really, since women stopped being able to have babies, what’s left to hope for?”

Profession… just another government bureaucrat, drifting through life constantly drunk. A former activist, Theo became cynical after the death of his son (19 years earlier in a flu pandemic) and the dissolution of his marriage.

Interests… now that there’s nothing left to live for, Theo’s only interests are the deadly pleasures: booze and cigarettes.

Relationship Status… divorced, though Theo’s ex-wife, Julian, has recently come back into his life with an interesting offer. She and her team need someone they can trust to complete a mission that has humanity’s future at stake.

Challenge… rekindling hope, both for himself and for humankind. Theo has been put in charge of taking care of a miracle: a pregnant woman. Julian’s group of activists has discovered that they carry the only remaining hope for mankind. Now it’s Theo’s job to transport the miracle woman and her unborn child to the safety of The Human Project, a secret laboratory at sea.

Personality… cynical, tired, and alcoholic. Since the death of his young boy and the apocalyptic epidemic of infertility, Theo has given up on life. As he puts it, “Even if they discovered the cure for infertility, doesn’t matter! Too late.” But maybe his vital new task will shake him from his long malaise.
