Living... well, that’s the question, isn’t it? The Emergency Medical Hologram, or, E.M.H. Program AK-1, Diagnostic and Surgical Subroutine Omega 3-2-3 is able to assist in all of your on-board medical needs, presuming that the ship you are on is Intrepid Class U.S.S. Voyager and that you are located within the confines of Sick Bay. His holographic emitters only go that far…
Visiting... the Delta Quadrant. The Doctor goes where the ship goes, especially when one of the crew has ceased their need of him but neglected to end his program… which he doesn’t much care for.
Profession... chief medical officer on board U.S.S. Voyager. The EMH was first activated by Ensign Harry Kim following the death of the ship’s medical personnel on its inaugural mission, wherein it was stranded in the Delta Quadrant 70,000 light-years from home. Of course, The Doctor is more than qualified to address all medical needs the crew may have. For, as he would explain, “I am not just a doctor. I've been designed with the information from 2,000 medical reference sources and the experience of 47 individual medical officers. I am the embodiment of modern medicine.”
Interests... the Doctor’s primary interest lies in remedying injuries and illnesses of Voyager’s crew, by design. And yet, the longer his program has been left on, the more his unique personality characteristics have had time to develop…
Challenge.... expanding beyond his original programming to accommodate the needs of Voyager on a more full-time basis, and not just as an emergency supplemental program. The Doctor’s maker also failed to impart a desirable bedside manner into his subroutines, so, his treatment of crewmembers can be quite gruff.
Personality... intelligent, arrogant and self-assured. With the entire ship’s medical library at his immediate disposal, The Doctor is one doctor with whom it is difficult to argue. And then, there is the fact that the argument is with a hologram. Still, Voyager’s crew can count on the Doctor to save them from any mystery illnesses that amount from their travels through the dangerous and unexplored Delta Quadrant.

The USS Voyager was meant to complete missions in Federation space. But it ends up stranded in the unexplored Delta Quadrant, 75 light years from Earth. Not only does Kathryn Janeway have to manage her own crew, she's also in charge of the Maquis—as well as a few local aliens—who were similarly stranded in the Delta Quadrant. Together, Janeway is sure that the crew will be able to find wormholes, spatial rifts, or new technologies that can serve as a shortcut back to Earth.
