Elizabeth Jennings

Living... in a suburb of Washington D.C. during the Cold War with her husband, Phillip, and her children, Paige and Henry. On the surface, Elizabeth and Phillip are a perfectly normal couple living an average, middle-class, American life: they raise their kids, they go to the mall, and they bake brownies for their neighbors.  

Profession... travel agent… and Soviet KGB spy. She and Phillip work at a small travel agency as their front, but they are actually undercover agents from the Soviet Union sent to pose as normal Americans while completing missions for their homeland. But keeping their cover is getting harder and harder as their children grow older and as an FBI agent moves in next door.   

Interests... supporting her motherland and creating a closer bond with her children. Elizabeth has strong Soviet values and finds American society despicable, though she’s not allowed to show it. She sees how different her values are from her American children’s and wants them to be more like her.  

Relationship Status... married. Phillip and Elizabeth have an arranged marriage founded more on a work partnership than on love, or so Elizabeth thinks. In their years of marriage, Elizabeth has rarely seen Phillip in a romantic light, but Phillip is in love with her. However, in her words: “We can’t do our jobs if we’re emotional.”  

Challenge... keeping her secret identity secret and working out her relationship with Phillip. While Elizabeth is fully dedicated to the Soviet Union, she knows Phillip is more driven by his love for her and their children. Their missions are becoming more dangerous, and she needs to work out what she wants from him, as her partner and husband, in order for them to succeed.  

Personality... smart, driven, and chameleonic. It’s no small feat to complete Soviet spy training and to fit in as a regular American, not to mention often going undercover as other people. Elizabeth is a top-of-the-class agent ready to bribe, scheme, or kill for her country.
