Character Analysis

Living… in a nice apartment in his hometown in London with his one-finned fish Gus. Other than the sleeping condition Steven suffers from, his life is uneventful and extremely lonely.
Profession… gift shop worker at the National Art Gallery. However, Steven longs to be a tour guide at the museum as he has much knowledge of art and history, especially Egyptian history. His boss turns him down every time he brings up the subject though.
Interests… history, puzzles, and his mom. Steven loves all kinds of history but has always been especially interested in Egyptian history. He knows vast amounts about Egyptian culture and even has taught himself to read hieroglyphs. Similarly, Steven loves solving puzzles of all kinds and seems especially skilled at solving Rubik’s cubes. Beyond his more academic interests, Steven has a great love for his mother and calls her daily to give her updates on his life. They have a close, meaningful relationship.
Relationship Status… single. Steven has never been in a relationship and missed the one date he ever got asked out on. However, upon meeting Marc Spector’s wife Layla he develops quick feelings for her and often questions why Marc would try to divorce her. He and Layla get along well and bond over their shared interests of history, languages, and poetry.
Challenge… figuring out why he keeps waking up in places he doesn’t remember going to. As he says, “My body wants to get up and wander about, like it has to get the 10,000 steps in. And I don’t even know about it until I wake up wherever.” Steven has had a sleeping condition for as long as he can remember, but recently he has been waking up in increasingly weird situations. The culprit behind this happening seems to be a man named Marc Spector who takes over Steven’s body while he sleeps. Steven is extremely confused by and concerned about this situation, and he fears he may be going insane. And on top of that, every morning he wakes up feeling like he has been hit by a bus.
Personality… caring, intelligent, and naive. Steven cares for others greatly, especially those he loves. Steven is also intensely intelligent and knows seemingly every piece of Egyptian history there is to know. Despite his more positive qualities though, Steven is also somewhat naive and seems to lack knowledge of real-world experiences. This sets him apart from Marc and can sometimes cause him trouble.
