Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew up…  as Sally Juspeczyk, a runaway and burlesque dancer in Poland. By the age of 18 she fought super-villains as a founding member of the Minutemen, and changed her name to Sally Jupiter to hide her heritage.

Living… in retirement in a classy retirement community in Nepenthe Gardens, California.

Profession… former superhero. More of a sex symbol than a crime-stopper, she was still one of the first members of the Minutemen, and later tried her luck at becoming a movie star. She found success as a model, which paid for her upscale house.

Interests… reminiscing the glory days of her youth. As she recalls fondly, "I'm 67 years old. Every day, the future looks a little bit darker. But the past, even the grimy parts of it, keep on getting brighter."

Relationship Status…  married to her agent Laurence Schexnayder. Before this, in 1940, she was brutally raped by fellow vigilante and member of the Minutemen, the jaded, morally devoid Comedian. She eventually forgave him, and the two had sex together again, which resulted in her only daughter, Laurie.

Challenge… being a good mother to Laurie, who eventually took over her superhero persona as the Silk Spectre II. She also struggles to get over the sexual assault perpetrated on her by the Comedian.

Personality… resourceful and flirty. Ever conscious of her looks, she dwells on her past as a model and the male attention she used to receive. She knows how to work the market and make a few dollars, but now that she’s out of work, she puts all her hopes on pushing Laurie into the crime fighting business.
