Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… unknown. Not only is Milchick’s past ambiguous, but his life in the present is also mysterious. It is unclear what is different about Milchick’s life on the outside—in fact, it may not be different at all, as it is also unclear whether Milchick is severed as his coworkers are. His co-workers are unable to access any of their memories from home while at work and vice versa.

Living… every waking moment in the office. Or at least that is what the rest of the severed floor is led to believe. Regardless, Milchick seems content and satisfied with his life as long as everything runs smoothly in the office.

Profession… manager on the severed floor at Lumon Industries Headquarters. Milchick thoroughly enjoys his job and always brings a positive vibe into the workplace. For example, he tells his employees about an important company perk: “I think this is a good time to remind ourselves that things like deaths happen outside of here, not here – a life at Lumon is protected from such things.”

Interests… office parties and dancing. Milchick believes that the best way to keep his workers motivated (or sometimes distracted) is with the use of incentives and breaks that allow them to unwind and have brief moments of enjoyment in what is otherwise a bleak and frustrating existence.

Relationship Status… single. Milchick is a true professional, thus he strictly abides by the regulations put in place by the office against romantic relationships in the office.

Challenge… keeping his workers in check. Being a manager on the severed floor is understandably challenging, as his workers are not exactly the most enthusiastic about their work all the time while dealing with existential questions about their very existence. However, with a balanced combination of incentives and intimidation Milchick does his best to keep them in line.

Personality… optimistic and energetic, yet intimidating at the same time. Milchick is exactly what Lumon wants in a manager as employees always want to be on his good side for rewards and support rather than punishment and scolding. He is typically an uplifting and supportive figure, though there is something off about him that also lends to an eerily menacing aura.
