Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Overview… a tough-as-nails drill sergeant in charge of preparing recruits for war. Sergeant Hartman has to turn ordinary men into extraordinary killers. Or, as he puts it, from “maggots” to “Marines.” Such a process is not always pretty, and Hartman certainly won’t make any friends with his physical and emotional abuse.
Personality... vulgar, tough, and loud. Sgt. Hartman is paid to be intimidating, although he takes to the job with such exuberance that it borders on sadism. If a man can survive Hartman's ruthless barrage of insults, injuries and abuse, then Vietnam should be a piece of cake.
