Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew up… in luxury. Sebastian comes from New York’s upper-class elite. He spends his days roaming the gilded townhouses of the Upper East Side and the mansions of Long Island.
Living… with his stepsister, the manipulative Kathryn. The stepsiblings have a strange relationship: they’re both obsessed with sex and long to sleep with each other.
Interests… the art of seduction. Sebastian spends every waking moment obsessing over his journal, in which he records his “sordid collection” of conquests, though he’s getting tired of the same game over and over again. “I’m sick of sleeping with these insipid Manhattan debutantes,” he insists. “Nothing shocks them anymore.” Not to mention the fact that he’s slept with just about every girl he’s met – even his therapist’s daughter.
Relationship Status… trying to seduce the virginal Annette Hargrove. Sebastian and his stepsister have made a bet: if Sebastian manages to take Annette’s prized virginity, then Kathryn will give herself to him – a prize that Sebastian has always coveted. She’s the one girl he couldn’t charm.
Challenge… managing the unexpected feelings that he’s been developing for Annette. It turns out that “daddy’s little angel, a paradigm of chastity and virtue” is deeper than most of Sebastian’s former conquests. She even manages to make him laugh. In order to win the bet, Sebastian needs to stop himself from falling in love. And he dreads to think what would happen if Kathryn found out about his feelings.
Personality… suave, manipulative, and cruel. Sebastian usually takes joy in others’ misery, until he meets and falls for Annette. He never expected love to feel better than sex.
