Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… without his father, who was a firefighter and died in the line of duty when Scott was only seven. Scott hasn’t gotten over his dad’s death seventeen years ago. As he says, “If you got to know him, you’d realize he was the coolest guy ever and it would ruin the rest of your life.”

Living… in a smoky haze in the basement of his childhood home in Staten Island. At the age of 24, Scott still lives with his mother. It’s not ideal, but at least he doesn’t have to pay rent.

Profession… unemployed. Scott is a high school dropout who doesn’t have a job. Scott is thinking about opening a tattoo business. His first paying client is a nine-year-old boy who leaves screaming. When the kid’s dad complains to Scott, he ends up meeting his mom and falling in love. The two have been dating ever since, much to Scott’s dismay.

Interests… smoking weed, playing video games, tattooing, listening to music, watching TV, and getting in trouble with his friends. Scott’s interests essentially mirror that of a high school boy.

Relationship Status… it's complicated. Scott and his childhood friend Kelsey have had a purely sexual relationship until recently, when Kelsey suggested she wants something more. Scott is troubled by this as he claims that he doesn’t want to put their friendship in jeopardy by making their relationship more serious.

Challenge… dealing with ADD, anxiety, depression, and Crohn’s disease. But Scott’s biggest challenge comes in the form of his mother’s new love interest, as Scott needs to learn to trust other people and let his mother be happy after all the years that have passed since his dad’s death.

Personality… good-hearted, impulsive, lazy, funny, blunt and emotional. Scott is very honest with what he is thinking and is not afraid to tell the truth. He has also proven to be very emotional, as a lot of his reactions show genuine feelings of guilt, hate, sadness and exhilaration. Overall, Scott draws a lot of sympathy from others and while he doesn’t have a great grasp on the things going on in his life, it's not for a lack of trying. He says, “I’m trying to figure stuff out. I don’t know the future."
