Samantha White

Grew up… in a loving family. Samantha was pushed to learn and grow as much as she could, and in turn she graduated high school, determined on attending an Ivy League. 

Living… on campus at Winchester University, an Ivy League university. She resides in Armstrong-Parker House, a dorm on campus comprised of mostly Black students. Samantha lives here with many of her friends, and was recently elected Head of House. She beat Troy Fairbanks in the election, which added to the tension already between them.

Profession… college student and host of a radio show called. Samantha works at the school’s radio station, where she hosts Dear White People, a show dedicated to exposing the racist events on campus. As she says on air, “Dear white people, our skin color is not a weapon. You don’t have to be afraid of it.” Unfortunately, she is often met with criticism due to willingness to expose just about anything.

Interests… the truth. Samantha loves music and her friends, but at the end of the day, finding and exposing the truth is her main mission. She doesn’t care who she hurts along the way, which can lead to tension, but she believes that nothing is more important than being honest. Except maybe when she is the one asked to be truthful.

Relationship status… single. Samantha and Troy dated for a time, but it died off due to Troy’s infidelity. Samantha is currently seeing Gabe, another student. She is hiding it from her peers because Gabe is white, and she already struggles with her racial identity and other’s expectations.

Challenge… dealing with racist, stuck up, Ivy League students. Samantha works tirelessly on her radio show, but it definitely isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Winchester University isn’t a safe haven for black students, rather the school is filled with aggressively racist trolls that Samantha deals with on the daily. When she isn’t breaking up Black Face parties, Samantha is dealing with hate comments and other nasty pushback on her work. 

Personality… abrasive, honest, and stubborn. Samantha is not quiet about her opinions, and it causes a lot of drama on campus. Her stubborn nature usually ends in some form of confrontation. However, Samantha has a lot to say because she cares about the world around her, and she is willing to fight hard to make it a better place for people like her.
