Grew up… in Michigan without a father who died when she was just a baby.
Living… in a Michigan suburb with her husband Stan, who is a mall rent-a-cop, and their children Sara and Harry.
Profession… waitress turned thief. The money that Stan and Ruby makes was not enough to pay for experimental medication that Sara needs until she can get a kidney transplant. Desperate to save her daughter’s life, Ruby found a way to pay for the medical treatments: robbing a grocery store with her friends Beth and Annie. Using toy pistols, they hold up the grocery store to find more money than they ever expected in the vault: $500,000. Her one-third share is more than enough to pay for the best doctors in the world.
Interests… religion. Ruby is a devoted Christian, and their family attends church every Sunday. Unfortunately, though, Ruby’s prayers to God about her daughter have gone unanswered.
Relationship Status… happily married to Stan. He truly loves her, but things are getting complicated between them. Ruby just found out that Stan secretly applied (and got accepted) to the Detroit Police Academy. That is great for Stan, but it’s not as good for Ruby’s new line of work where she is on the other side of the law from her husband.
Challenge… keeping the money they stole. As it turns out, the cash in the vault was owned by a drug cartel that was laundering money through the grocery store. The cartel has come to get the money back with interest with guns blazing, and they’re not sure what to do next. As Ruby says, “It's one thing to wash fake cash or rob a grocery store. But there is a line here. And if you cross it, you can't come back.”
Personality… sassy, loyal, and practical. Ruby tells herself that her actions are admirable because she cares about her daughter. But Ruby is more of a follower in the plan than a leader like Beth is. Annie jokes that Ruby would swallow gasoline if Beth suggests it.
