Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… in New Jersey. Originally from Cape Kennedy, Florida, Rose moved with her mother to live in New Jersey. Though the original plan was for her younger brother, Jed, to also come along, things changed abruptly, and Rose was forced to leave Jed with her dad, promising to return for him soon.

Profession… unemployed. But she’s working on changing that. In the meantime, she is living off the estate money that her mother left behind while she searches for her brother. Jed has been placed into the foster system, and the foster agency won’t tell Rose where he is. With her mother gone and without a job, Rose does her best to push her way forward – for Jed’s sake. She is, however, being flown out to London to give an interview about her family history – and it pays. Her search for her brother will have to go on pause just for a little bit. The money will go to paying for a PI, anyhow.

Interests… few. In the face of her mother’s passing and the continued absence of Jed, it’s hard for Rose to get her feet under her. While she needs to get a job to pay for the costs of searching for her brother, she’s also had to shelve ideas of going to school and writing to focus on finding her brother.

Relationship Status… single. A young adult with lots of responsibility, Rose doesn’t have time for a relationship. However, she is lucky enough to be surrounded by people who are willing to help and support her as she looks for Jed, including her neighbor Lyta, her newly acquainted great-grandmother Unity, and a host of colorful characters at the B&B she stays at as she looks for her brother.

Challenges… her dreams. She is having weird dreams, where people are talking about her, and suddenly she’s being told she’s something dangerous, something called a dream vortex. With every step closer to Jed, her life seems to only get stranger and stranger, but nothing will stop her from reuniting with her brother. Caught between the schemes of the Nightmare called The Corinthian and the duty-bound Dream, Rose is unwilling to let herself be used as a pawn. Rejecting The Corinthian’s desire to use her as a tool to defeat Dream, and unwilling to accept that Dream must kill her, Rose stands her ground, warning the two entities: “If I’m as powerful as you say I am, then I will find my own way.”

Personality… strong-willed and resilient. Rose is willing to go up against the personifications of Dreams, Nightmares, and serial killers to find Jed. It’s hard to do it alone, though, and Rose finds comfort in the support of the friends that she makes along the way.
