Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… as a Montague. They’re a large and established noble family. Raised to prize family above all else, Romeo is still a young man in the process of growing up, and he has much to learn about love, honor, and war.

Living… in the city of Verona. It is divided by a rivalry between the Capulets and the Montagues. Romeo’s upbringing has made him cherish family, but the pangs of adolescent love have turned him against his family's wishes.

Profession… full time teenager, gatecrasher, and wingman. The son of a wealthy patriarch, Romeo resembles a socialite more than a student. Because he's so rich, Romeo’s only job is to pine after girls and party with his best friends, Benvolio and Mercutio.

Interests… dancing, having fun, and waxing poetic about women.

Relationship Status… complicated. Rosaline, his girlfriend of a few weeks, recently broke up with him to become a nun, and Romeo is devastated. Now commonly sighted in the Montague gardens on the verge of tears, Romeo desperately needs to find something – or someone – to mend his broken heart.

Challenge… controlling his new romantic feelings. While trying to rebound from Rosaline, Romeo accompanies his friends to a Capulet masquerade – where he falls head-over-heels for the young Capulet daughter, Juliet. Now once again in love – this time with a daughter of his family’s sworn enemies – Romeo must find a way to reconcile his conflicting desires.

Personality… rash, romantic, and ready. Bitten by the love-bug again, Romeo is just as prone to moody introspection as he is to bold action. When it comes to the ladies, it's hard to find anyone smoother than this hopeless romantic, who makes Juliet blush by telling her, “my lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand/To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.”
