Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… in a lavish apartment on his own. Robert is a recluse, and most of his visitors are pizza delivery men.

Profession… Chief Technical Officer at Callister Inc. He designed Infinity, a VR experience game. The company was co-founded with James Walton or “Walt.” The two used to be close friends before falling out, but they still work together, just rather unenthusiastically.

Interests… coding, gaming, and Space Fleet, an old space-themed adventure show. Robert has collected VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray copies of all six seasons of it. His love for it has translated into his work, since the company name, Callister Inc., was inspired by the name of a spaceship in the show, the USS Callister. Robert’s free time is taken up by playing his own moderated version of Infinity, and he usually pairs this experience with pizza and strawberry or chocolate milk.

Relationship Status… chronically single. Robert doesn’t seem to have had any success in this area for a while. He has trouble differentiating between romantic interest and kindness. Instead of being more upfront about his feelings, he “stares” at women, which is undeniably more unsettling than romantic.

Challenge… getting the update out for Infinity, and standing up to Walt, who constantly belittles him. Everyone in the office mirrors Walt’s mistreatment of Robert. He has become used to people criticizing him behind closed doors, rolling their eyes at him, and avoiding contact with him. He desperately wants to be revered, so this treatment pains him.

Personality… socially awkward and spiteful. Robert holds grudges, and instead of standing up for himself, he quietly and privately acts out against the people that have hurt him. Publicly, he comes across as meek and kind too—but in a stilted way. His smiles are never reciprocated, and he finds it hard to connect with others.
