Ricky Bobby

Grew Up… without a daddy. Except once – when Reese Bobby walked into 10-year-old Ricky’s class career day. There he uttered the words that would become Ricky’s motto for life: “If you ain’t first, you’re last!”

Living… in a McMansion. He lives with his bombshell wife Carly, their two foul-mouthed sons, Walker and Texas Ranger (T.R.), and Carly’s father Chip. Carly and Ricky allow and even encourage their sons to do and say whatever they want. When Chip expresses his disgust at their behavior, Walker and T.R. let him have it as Ricky cheers them on. T.R. says, “Chip, I’m gonna come at you like a spider monkey!” and Walker later throws Chip’s war medals off a bridge.

Profession… NASCAR driver. Ricky drives the #26 Wonder Bread car for Dennit racing, alongside his teammate and best friend Cal Naughton, Jr. Their motto has been, “Shake and bake!” since they were kids. Cal routinely sacrifices his own chance to win races by slingshotting Ricky into the lead, and Ricky is one of the most successful drivers in NASCAR until he suffers a debilitating accident during a race at Charlotte Speedway.

Interests… driving fast and fast food.

Relationship Status… happily married. That is, until Carly dumps Ricky after Ricky’s accident and marries Cal. Ricky is devastated, but then a new girl pops up on his radar: his nerdy assistant Susan.

Challenge… dealing with the accident, the divorce, and the sudden appearance of the superskilled French driver Jean Gerard. Ricky is no longer the fearless driver he once was. With the help of Susan, his mother Lucy, his daddy Reese, and his crew chief, maybe – just maybe – Ricky can regain the confidence that made him the king of NASCAR.

Personality… cocky, immature, and lowbrow. Ricky is a manchild, and his immaturity plays to his advantage on the track. He drives without inhibition. In Ricky’s own words: “I'm the best there is - plain and simple. I mean, I wake up in the morning and I piss excellence. You know, nobody can hang with my stuff. I'm just a big, hairy, American winning machine.”
