Overview… an ordinary Joe on the run. Richard flees to London in search of a spy ring that left a dead woman in his apartment in order to frame him. Now on the run with a mystery woman named Pamela, Richard finds himself in the center of a web of military secrets, wandering through Scotland’s hills with the police on his tail.
Personality… uptight, confused, and crafty. Richard lived a decidedly simple, boring life until he was framed for murder, but he seems to be taking it quite well. For a regular guy, he is extremely good at escaping from the police. From the way he jumps out of windows and dodges gunshots, you’d think this was something he did regularly.

Richard Hannay is a Canadian visitor to London. At the end of "Mr Memory's" show in a music hall, he meets Annabella Smith who is running away from secret agents. He accepts her request to hide her in his flat, but in the night she is murdered. Fearing he could be accused of her murder, Hannay goes on the run determined to break the spy ring.
