Character Analysis

Overview… an all-around average suburban father. Phil has always had a difficult time living up to the expectations of his competitive father, Buck. The owner of a vitamin store, Phil tends to see himself as somewhat of a loser. When Phil’s son Sam is kicked off of Buck’s highly successful little-league soccer team, Phil decides to take matters into his own hands and coach The Tigers, the worst team in the league.
Personality... bland and unsuccessful, but obsessed. Phil doesn't know what it feels like to win anything. Not only does he want to look good in front of his young son, but he also wants to prove to himself that he can compete on the same level as his tough, mean-spirited father. Unfortunately, Phil's obsession with winning is turning him into an over-competitive and controlling jerk.

After college graduation, Grover's girlfriend Jane tells him she's moving to Prague to study writing. Grover declines to accompany her, deciding instead to move in with several friends, all of whom can't quite work up the inertia to escape their university's pull. Nobody wants to make any big decisions that would radically alter his life, yet none of them wants to end up like Chet, the professional student who tends bar and is in his tenth year of university studies.
