Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Overview… the revered author of the Mary Poppins children’s stories. P.L. Travers (or Miss Travers, as she prefers to be called) is very protective of her creations. Mr. Disney wants to make a film about Mary Poppins, but Ms. Travers does not approve of animation. “I won't have her turned into one of your silly cartoons,” she says. The hermetic Ms. Travers thinks of her fictional Banks family as a part of herself, and she will go to extraordinary lengths to protect them from Walt Disney’s supposed vulgarity.

Personality… uptight, angry, and uncompromising. Not even the charming Walt Disney can seem to crack P.L. Travers. She refuses to give an inch when it comes to her precious characters. It is only when Mr. Disney learns about her past that he comes to understand why she is as difficult as she is.
