Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew Up… in the early 18th century, on his family’s estate. After his older brother died, Jamie was raised to be the future laird of Broch Tuarach. But that changed when he ran afoul of the English while trying to defend his sister and home from an English officer’s depredations.
Living… at Castle Leoch, the seat of the Mackenzie clan, of which Jamie’s uncle is the head.
Profession… would-be-laird, if he could safely return to his lands without the English capturing him. Now he serves the Mackenzie clan as a warrior, until such time as he can return to his own family.
Interests… languages and reading. Jamie is surprisingly well-educated, and can speak many languages, including English, Gaelic, French, German, Greek, Spanish, Latin, and more.
Relationship Status… single. Jamie is no stranger to flirting—he’s rather good-looking, after all—but he’s never been in a serious relationship. When he meets the strange Englishwoman called Claire Beauchamp, she immediately intrigues him, though.
Challenge… keeping out of the English army’s clutches, and finding some way to regain his heritage or at least find a comfortable position with his extended family. This is becoming increasingly difficult as the Jacobites threaten to revolt against the current English crown.
Personality… amiable, intelligent, and stubborn. Jamie’s sense of duty and honor is strong, and he has never backed down from a fight or refused to do something he thought was his responsibility. When unchallenged, though, he has a good sense of humor and social awareness. He is very loyal to his family and loved ones.
