Character Analysis

Visiting… The White Lotus resort in Maui with her parents, younger brother, and her best friend Paula. Although they are on vacation, her mom Nicole is always working on Zoom calls. Her mom is one of the most successful female CEOs in the world, but Olivia isn’t impressed with that. She’s not close to her weak father either, who seems to be in the middle of a mid-life crisis on their trip. And her brother is so annoying that Olivia and Paula have banished him to sleep in the kitchenette of their hotel suite. For her sanity, Olivia is glad she has Paula with her—along with a bag full of prescription and recreational drugs.
Profession… college sophomore. Olivia goes to college with Paula, who is on a scholarship.
Interests… sunbathing, social media, and gossiping. Olivia and Paula spend their days reading Nietzsche by the pool and making fun of the other guests at the resort.
Relationship Status… single. Olivia and Paula are close—so close that it sometimes seems that Olivia is interested in her romantically. But they’ve been starting to fight on the trip after Paula hooked up with a good-looking guy named Kai who works at the resort.
Challenge… her anger. Olivia is an example of how money doesn’t buy happiness. Her mom is so “perfect” in everyone’s eyes, that it’s probably been hard for Olivia growing up in her shadow. She often puts down her mother, often saying “Mom, cringe.” Olivia has everything she could possibly want, but she seems to be embarrassed by her family’s wealth. Olivia often talks about the privilege they have, especially compared to Paula who comes from a humble background. But while Olivia complains about their privilege, she also seems to enjoy the perks that come along with it.
Personality… outspoken, snarky, and confident. Olivia makes rude comments to her parents and brother, and she doesn’t seem to have much regard for the staff or everyday people of the island. She may not be the nicest person, but she knows who she is and is ultra-confident.
