Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living…  in Manhattan at the Arconia with his beloved dog Winny. It’s a luxurious condominium, but it’s not clear how much longer Oliver can continue to live there. He’s behind on his payments and is close to being evicted.

Profession… luminary of the American theater, at least according to him. Oliver’s last musical production was Splash, which was a flop that opened to nearly unanimous negative reviews and involved 12 mermen nearly dying from dives into a pool of water on stage. And to make matters even worse, his son hasn’t spoken to him since then after he invested his college fund into the failed production. Oliver is continuing to try to find funding for potential projects, but he hasn’t had any luck.

Interests… drinking too much, eating snacks with dips, name-dropping, and gossiping.

Relationship Status… single. Oliver tends to put work before personal relationships, a trait that has not entirely disappeared.

Challenge… solving a murder in his building. One of the residents of the building was found with a fatal gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a suicide. Oliver saw the victim on the elevator with two other residents the day he died, and the three of them are convinced it was a murder. They are working together to solve the mystery, documenting their findings in a podcast called “Only Murders in the Building” that Oliver raised $35,000 for. The podcast is not going over well with at least one of the building’s tenants. Oliver found a note on his door that says: “End the podcast or I end you.” And his dog Winny has been mysteriously poisoned.  As Oliver says, “Oh, my God, the twists and turns of this are unbelievable. It’s like a rainbow crafted by a drunken leprechaun.”

Personality… confident, creative, and charming. Oliver has grandiose dreams that don’t always match his pocketbook. He finds himself easily making mistakes, which he always tries to patch up with a joke or a smile. He can be annoying, but he does so in the most endearing way. It’s never a dull moment with Oliver around.
