Overview… a big man on campus. Yes, even by Harvard standards, Oliver does it all. Dean’s List in social studies, all-Ivy hockey player, and Barrett Hall is named for his great-grandfather! As you would expect, he’s quite a hit with the ladies. But he has never been as lovestruck as he is when he meets Jenny Cavilleri, a flirtatious and artsy music student at Radcliffe. Oliver soon wants to marry her, but his strict father, Oliver Barrett III, does not approve of her middle-class upbringings.
Personality… earnest and passionate. It is Oliver’s emotional openness that propels his relationship with Jenny along at a brisk pace. He is reluctant to follow in the Barrett tradition of wealth and success. For all his accomplishments, he feels that he’ll never be good enough for his father. He feels trapped, and the only way he knows how to rebel is to drive his fancy roadster like a madman.
