Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Overview... inner-party member of Oceania. O’Brien’s job is to regulate Ingsoc (English Socialism) and the Thought Police, a group of storm troopers sent to ensure that the public is having thoughts conducive to national productivity and devoid of rebellious ideas. O’Brien is kind to Winston Smith, who hides his true thoughts from all forms of surveillance, but apparently can’t avoid being truthfully perceived by O’Brien.

Personality… alluring, mysterious, and influential. He is a warm person in conversation, though his true motives are often hidden. While he is a member of the elite, he acts like a common man, approachable and deceptively simple.
