Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew Up… with her witch mother, Andromeda, and Muggle-born father, Ted. Tonks’ mother grew up in the House of Black, a Pureblood family renowned for their hatred of anyone of lesser blood status. When Andromeda married the non-Pureblood Ted, she was disowned and burned off the Black family tree. Hence, Tonks grew up estranged from her mother’s family, like Aunts Narcissa and Bellatrix, two of Lord Voldemort’s most loyal supporters.
Visiting… Number 12, Grimmauld Place – the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix. The secret society, created by Albus Dumbledore, exists to oppose the dark forces of Lord Voldemort. Along with the rest of the Order, Tonks works to protect Harry Potter and the magical community at large from the dangerous Death Eaters and, of course, Voldemort himself.
Profession… Auror. While at Hogwarts, Tonks was a Hufflepuff, and admittedly a bit poorly behaved. However, she got good enough marks to enter the three-year Auror training program, which she recently completed under the guidance of Alastor Moody, her mentor. Now she’s a fully fledged Dark wizard catcher, a noble (though not the safest) profession.
Interests… contorting her face into various shapes to entertain those around her. Tonks was born a Metamorphmagus, meaning she can change her appearance at will. Some days her hair is brown and others it’s violently purple; if she’s in the mood, her nose will transform into a pig snout or a duck beak. All silliness aside, her ability is very helpful in practice – she got top marks on the Concealment and Disguise portion of her Auror training.
Relationship Status… in a complicated relationship with Remus Lupin. Though at first Tonks and Lupin hid their affection for one another, eventually they began dating. Lupin was afraid to be with Tonks because he knows how difficult it is to manage him when he transforms into a werewolf. However, Tonks was unconcerned and wanted to make it work no matter his condition.
Challenge… fighting Voldemort and his band of Death Eaters. Tonks, who is in her early 20s, was much too young to fight in the First Wizarding War. But this time around, she’s more than ready to put her skills to use defending her friends and family from Voldemort. Though the Order isn’t 100% certain what Voldemort’s ultimate scheme is, Tonks and the other members are taking turns guarding a mysterious weapon at the Ministry of Magic that Voldemort seems to want more than anything…
Personality… funny, feisty, and clumsy. Although she is a powerful, skilled witch, Tonks is clumsy and often trips over things – she almost failed the Stealth and Tracking portion of the Auror training. She also has a good sense of humor, and always jokes around with Harry, Hermione, and the Weasley kids. Above all, though, Tonks is loyal to Dumbledore, and fearlessly and eagerly fights the evil forces of the wizarding world.
