Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living… in Lima, Ohio with his single mother. Puck (which is what everyone calls him) doesn’t know who his father was. That certainly hasn’t provided him with a very good role model of how a man should treat a woman.

Profession… high school student at William McKinley High School. He’s also a star football player. Puck currently uses his popularity to put others down, promote his “badass” status, and get girls. Puck routinely throws weaker kids in the dumpster and throws slushies in their faces.

Interests… MILFs, sex, head cheerleader Quinn, Star Wars, football, and popularity. Puck also possesses a natural singing ability and can play the guitar very well, though he initially shows no desire to join the glee club. He spends a lot of time making crude jokes and trying to seduce older women – notably through his pool-cleaning business.

Relationship Status… in a relationship with seemingly every girl in the school. Puck is a huge ladies man and often brags about dating two to three girls at once and “getting laid” all the time. He deems relationships both stupid and unnecessary and is constantly trying to get his supposed best friend Finn to cheat on his girlfriend Quinn. Puck’s lack of respect for relationships – and friendships – is embodied by his secret affair with Quinn.

Challenge… trying to get his best friend back. When Finn joined the glee club, Puck’s life, like that of Quinn, was thrown into disarray. Everything he knew came into question. To Puck, the most important thing in the world is protecting his reputation. He therefore could not understand why Finn would sing and dance with a bunch of losers. His primary concern is that, if Finn doesn’t quit the glee club, he’ll have to stop being friends with him in order to salvage his own reputation. Of course, maybe Puck could simply join the glee club himself and learn something about how people aren’t so different after all. We can hope, can’t we?

Personality… crude, judgmental, and the stereotypical jock. At least for now. Puck, like many of the popular kids at McKinley, is extremely shallow. He’s rude, mean, and a bad person. After several failed attempts at reforming, Puck says, “God, I'm so tired of people judging me for a few mistakes I've made. I’ve tried to be a good guy, I go to school and I say, Be cool Puck, be nice.’ But by second period I’ve got a fire extinguisher in my hand and I'm spraying some dweeb with it and I don't know how I got there.” Hopefully the hint of self-awareness he shows there will bloom and Puck will turn over a new leaf. At his age, there’s definitely still time.
