Noah Cross

Grew up… wealthy. In the early 1900s, Noah Cross and his business partner Hollis Mulwray owned the water department of Los Angeles. They've since given its ownership and operation to the city, but not without a getting a lot out of it, first.

Living… in the opulent wealth of a huge personal estate in Los Angeles in 1937. Recently, Cross and his old partner Hollis— now the husband of Cross’ estranged daughter, Evelyn— had an argument. Could it be over the fact Hollis's alleged affair with someone younger went public, or is it over the public dam that Hollis refuses to build?

Profession… retired. But this doesn't mean Cross has stopped his schemes for power and money. Cross'll use any means necessary to get what he wants, and he's very good at what he does. Though he appears respectable at first, Cross himself admits that old age doesn't necessarily translate to respectability: " 'course I'm respectable. I'm old. Politicians, ugly buildings, and whores all get respectable if they last long enough."

Interests… the future, and securing his legacy. Cross becomes obsessed with finding the girl that Hollis had been reportedly seeing. He hires the same Private Investigator, J.J. Gittes, whom his daughter is using to find her.

Relationship Status… single. Cross's wife seems nowhere in the picture, and he's distant from his daughter, Evelyn. Something happened in the past, and they have since stopped talking. Being secretive is a trait that Cross has passed on to his daughter, as the two are extremely protective of the skeletons in their closets.

Challenge… using Gittes to "get the girl" without anyone getting to the bottom of his secrets. Cross keeps his cards close to his chest, and is trying to strong-arm Gittes into working for him.

Personality… outwardly pleasant, but manipulative and intimidating. Noah’s also insatiably greedy; although he's made millions off selling the water department to the city of Los Angeles, Noah won't stop there. You never know what scheme the mysterious Noah Cross has up his sleeve.
