Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… on his home planet, Gallifrey. It’s gone now, erased from the universe because of a great and brutal war led by the Time Lords and the Daleks, two races that never seem to come to peace with each other. The Doctor was stuck in the middle of it, and this left him incredibly scarred from the event and the choices he had to make.

Visiting… the day the sun expands, space satellites, and an industrial bunker in Utah aboard his ship, the TARDIS. Space travel isn’t the only thing his magnificent ship can do. In the Doctor’s words: “Did I mention it also travels in time?” It’s enough to convince ordinary girl Rose to come along and experience the wonders of space and time with him.

Profession… universal wanderer. The Doctor goes wherever the TARDIS takes him–or wherever the universe needs him. That doesn’t mean he won’t take suggestions, though. He takes Rose to see the faraway future and the past not so long ago. Sometimes the TARDIS goes haywire, and there’s no telling where the Doctor and his companions may end up next.

Interests… traveling and being clever. The Doctor tends to get excited when he’s able to outsmart his villains and impress his companions. Even with hundreds of years of knowledge stowed away in the Doctor’s mind, new challenges and puzzles always manage to arise. That’s one of the Doctor’s skills, though: thinking on his feet.

Relationship Status… alone in the universe. All throughout his life, no matter how far the Doctor traveled, there was always Gallifrey and its people out there somewhere, waiting for him to come home. His companions too were there for him no matter what. Now, the Doctor may never find those connections again. That is, until Rose Tyler comes along and shows him that someone will always come along for the adventure. No matter how alone the Doctor feels with his home planet gone, Rose is the home he needs.

Challenge… finding joy and the thrill of exploration in his life again after the Time War. The difficult decisions the Doctor was forced to make during his time warring against the Daleks took a toll on him. Before he meets Rose, the Doctor is jaded and has his back mostly turned from the world. But when he finds himself in contact with bright fresh eyes and a winning London smile, the Doctor can’t help but find himself smiling back.

Personality… snarky and hard-wired. He may seem tough with his leather jacket and Northern accent (as he says: “Lots of planets have a North”), but the Doctor is a softy at heart. He just needs someone to break him out of his shell and find wonder in the universe again.
