Character Analysis

Grew Up… in Japan, during the Taishō era (1912-1926). Though this era is known for the growing blend of Japanese traditionalism and modernism, Nezuko herself is from a rural village, where she and her family lived in a small house in the woods, away from most other residents of the area. While living at home, Nezuko was devoted to her family, willing to take on the responsibilities that were passed on to her in the absence of her father. Nezuko was a responsible and caring older sister to her younger siblings, assisting her mother in their upbringing.
Profession… warrior. Although she isn’t an official member of the Demon Slayer Corps, Nezuko is able to pull her weight when the going gets tough, often coming in at just the right moment to turn the tide of battle.
Interests… sleeping and avoiding the dangerous sunlight.
Relationship Status… single. Nezuko seems uninterested in anyone romantically. Given her young age and the fact that she spends most of her time sleeping, it’s easy to understand why. Outside of romantic relationships, Nezuko’s strongest bond is with her older brother, Tanjiro, and she is a fierce ally and protector of him. She also appears to hold the same feelings of compassion for others as her brother, as she’ll get in harm’s way to defend others, just like Tanjiro.
Challenge… attempting to stay alive. Traveling with a Demon Slayer is dangerous, even if that Demon Slayer happens to be her brother. Most of Tanjiro’s associates and higher-ups have no tolerance for demons, and Tanjiro’s greatest allies quickly become Nezuko’s biggest threats. On the other hand, there is also the danger that comes from challenging the high-ranking demons that Tanjiro encounters on his missions while trying to find a cure for Nezuko. Not one to let her brother fight by himself, Nezuko often finds herself in the line of fire alongside Tanjiro.
Personality… strong-willed, happy, and emotional. Nezuko’s willpower to protect humans trumps even her most basic instincts. Though this willpower is seen more often through her actions than her words, Nezuko has been seen telling herself, "Humans are to be protected and saved... I will never hurt them.” Though it is her nature to crave human flesh and blood, she has resolved herself to never cause humans harm and to instead protect them by any means necessary. During fights, Nezuko will join to protect humans without a second thought for her own safety, filled by a fierce passion. She doesn’t speak much after becoming a demon and tends to be in a docile state, not outwardly reacting to what happens around her, though she is kind and protective of the humans around her. Though Nezuko doesn’t tend to be reactive, she is generally happy, and during intense moments she can reconnect with her human emotions, sometimes leading her to cry and become emotional.
