Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living... at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba, where he is only several hundred yards away from 4,000 men that are trained to kill him.

Profession... Colonel in the Marines and base commander of Guantanamo Bay. Col. Jessup went to the Academy and did a few tours in Vietnam. He's been promoted up through the chain of command with greater speed and success than almost anyone he knows. And now he is a Colonel. As he says, he now gets to deal with the bullets, the bombs, and the blood.

Interests… smoking cigars. Fortunately, there are a lot of good ones in Cuba.

Relationship Status... single. Out of the many women he has known, he has the fondest memories of being with his superior officer. As he says, "There is nothing on this earth sexier, believe me, than a woman you have to salute in the morning."

Challenge... that somehow he's being accused with being involved with murder. But it can't be; he was just doing his job as a leader of fighting men. In fact, Col. Jessup thinks the suggestion he did anything wrong must be a joke. And the lawyer who is bringing the case, Lt. Daniel Kaffee, is a joke too. Col. Jessup considers him just a Harvard mouth in a white uniform.

Personality... tough. How else could you describe a guy whose life motto is, “Walk softly and carry an armored tank division”? Col. Jessup isn’t afraid of anything or anyone, and isn’t used to people challenging him. He shouldn’t ever have to explain himself, especially to some desk jockey, but he’ll damn sure never back down.
