Character Analysis
(Avoiding Spoilers)
Grew up… the middle child in a middle-class, loving family. An average student from an average town, Nana might not have much in the way of street smarts, but she makes up for it with an overabundance of pluckiness.
Living... in a Tokyo apartment, with Nana Osaki. Initially, Nana moves to Tokyo in order to be with her boyfriend, Shoji Endo, but she quickly finds the day-to-day finances of living in Tokyo too much for her strained budget. Not wanting to burden Shoji, Nana ends up sharing an apartment with Nana Osaki (or Nana O), an aspiring musician and Nana Komatsu's dear, dear friend.
Profession… none, at the moment. At 20, Nana's still not quite sure what she wants to do with her life, besides the vague hope of "having a dream come true and being happy."
Interests… fashion, friends, and her boyfriend. Nana's not a complicated girl – at heart, all she wants to do is make the people around her happy. She's so eager to please that Nana O's nicknamed her "Hachi" after Hachiko, the Akita (a dog breed) celebrated as a symbol of loyalty in Japan.
Relationship Status… dating Shoji, and she couldn't be happier about it. Finally, after falling for all of the wrong guys, Nana's found the seemingly perfect guy. Even if they haven't been spending as much time together, she knows that Shoji loves her.
Challenge… finding true love. Ever since high school, Nana's been a romantic, falling in love with practically every other guy she lays eyes on. This has lead to more than a few broken hearts, but Nana's persistent. She’s sure that one day she'll find a relationship just "like one of those romantic and dramatic stories in the movies."
Personality… goofy and occasionally airheaded, but unerringly kind. Innocent to the point of naivety, Nana's lack of relationships means she often gets taken advantage of in relationships. But despite all her troubles, she remains unflaggingly optimistic in her hope for true love. She might not be very responsible, but when it comes to loyalty and generosity, Nana's a hard girl to beat.
See Her In... the anime. Based on the manga of the same name, Nana follows the adventures of two young women named Nana who, despite their opposite personalities, live together in Tokyo and become close friends. Alternating between romantic Nana K and independent Nana O, Nana is the realistic, poignant tale of two very different young women and the friendship that grows between them as they navigate being young in a big city.
