Character Analysis

Grew up… a boy with a girlish name. While Nagisa shares this trait with the members of his swim team, unlike them, he has the physique to match. Five-five and perpetually cheerful at fifteen, Nagisa spent much of his childhood as a dress-up doll for his older sisters, who delighted in putting him in dresses and skirts.
Living… with his parents in Iwatobi, a small town in costal Japan. Nagisa's been surrounded by the ocean since he was a child, which, along with the many impressive swimmers he counts as friends, has undoubtedly fueled his love for the water.
Profession… high school student. Though he's much more interested in having fun, especially when it means he gets to swim with his friends.
Interests… sweets, sugar, and food. Nagisa might be small, but he will eat any and everything, from oddly-flavored mackerel to dubious protein powder that makes his friends blanch. He also enjoys teasing his friends, suggesting that they "parade through the school halls in our swimsuits" to promote their swim club.
Relationship Status… single. Nagisa's fairly carefree, but even he has to balance schoolwork and swim practice, leaving little room for romance. However, he's been spending a lot of time with the swim team's newest member, Rei Ryugazaki, whom Nagisa recruits by promising, "we can get closer once you join the swim club."
Challenge… making sure the swim club succeeds. Until Nagisa arrived at Iwatobi High, there was no swim team to speak of. As a result, the swim team has to prove themselves as a new club– and with talented swimmers like Makoto Tachibana and prodigy Haruka Nanase, Nagisa's sure they can succeed.
Personality… cheerful, enthusiastic, and not nearly as oblivious as he seems. Nagisa has a playful, childish approach to life, but if his frequent innuendos are anything to go by, he's anything but innocent. Still, while he can be fairly spacey and does enjoy needling others, Nagisa's main priority is making sure that everyone has fun.
