Overview... a seemingly motherless young girl who nonetheless finds a family in the household she serves. Yet while Mui's 1950s Vietnam is not yet at war, the family she serves is. With a negligent father, two immature sons, and a frequently sick grandmother, Mui's family is hardly a peaceful place. In the midst of this turbulent environment, Mui's quiet, soothing presence quickly endears her to the mother of the household, who eventually comes to consider Mui as her own child.
Personality... quiet, but curious and sensitive. As a maidservant, Mui is familiar with the concept of being seen and not heard, but that doesn't prevent her from gazing back at the things she finds interesting. While dutifully inconspicuous, she's also deeply curious about the lush natural world around her.
