Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Living... intergalactically.

Profession... a cosmic warrior who serves the good and light. Mrs. Which works with her companions Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who to fight back against “The It,” a form of pure evil attempting to spread its way across the universe. That often means seeking out other potential cosmic warriors and empowering them on their own journeys. Though she may be able to appear in human form, Mrs. Which is actually something much, much greater.

Interests... out-of-this-world fashion.

Challenge... guiding Meg Murry in finding her father. Mrs. Which’s latest mission involves the Murrys, a family of gifted scientists caught up in an intergalactic mishap. Four years ago, Mr. Murry accidentally “tessered” himself across time and space and got stranded out in the universe. Fearing he might be in danger, “the Mrs.” enlist his teenage daughter Meg, his young son Charles Wallace, and Meg’s friend Calvin O’Keefe to help rescue him. Meg, specifically, has a cosmic connection to her father that they think they can use to trace his location. It’s a big journey for these young humans, and the Mrs. will have to do everything they can to protect them along the way.

Personality... calm, regal, and commanding. Mrs. Which is the leader of her trio of cosmic warriors, and they’re deeply respectful of her expertise and experience. She wields her power and authority with a calm, composed demeanor. Though Mrs. Which can seem larger-than-life (and sometimes literally is larger-than-life), she’s not detached or aloof. She makes a personal connection with Meg and becomes a mentor as much as a commander. As she tells Meg, “You just have to find the right frequency and have faith in who you are.” Mrs. Which is inspiring in every sense of the world. Most of all, she inspires everyone around her to be their best selves.
