Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… in Brooklyn in the wealthy Brewster family household. His family can trace its lineage back to the Pilgrims.

Living... surrounded by his crazy family. Most of his family suffers from some pretty peculiar oddities. For example, his brother Teddy thoroughly believes that he is the 23rd President of the United States, Teddy Roosevelt. And as it turns out, Teddy may be the least crazy of his relatives. Mortimer says it best when he says, "Insanity runs in my family. It practically gallops."

Profession... drama critic and acclaimed author.

Relationship Status... married as of a day ago. Mortimer has written long written rants and diatribes against marriage, but he finally gave in to the institution. He has just married Elaine, who is literally the girl next door he grew up with. They are in love, but their honeymoon doesn't last long.

Challenge... dealing with his recent discovery. Mortimer was terrified to find a corpse under a window seat. He initially thought his brother Teddy was behind it, but he was shocked to find out his sweet elderly Aunts, Abby and Martha, are murders. Apparently, they have developed a "very bad habit" of serving lonely elderly bachelors a potent cocktail: elderberry wine spiked with arsenic, strychnine and cyanide. Of course, Elaine has no idea, and as far as Mortimer is concerned, she must never know.

Personality... charming and smart but in over his head. Mortimer appears too normal and rational for his crazy family. Or maybe he just hides it better than they do.
