Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… a faerie king’s jester. As a young boy, Mimir served a cruel master. His group of friends got up to all sorts of tomfoolery, but as long as his king was entertained, there was nothing to worry about… until there was. Through his servitude, Mimir learned to be quite crafty, a talent that would prove useful during his travels throughout the realms.

Living… on a desolate mountaintop, imprisoned and tortured, for the last hundred and nine winters. For years, Mimir served Odin faithfully as the (self-proclaimed) greatest ambassador in the realms, to gods or mortals. However, the king of the Aesir does not take kindly to criticism. Mimir claims that as he “grew more to care about people and the world,” Odin began to view him as insubordinate. Unwilling to let Mimir’s gifts of sight and wisdom go to waste, Odin trapped his ex-advisor to a magical tree from which no blade, no matter how fine, could free him. But when he encounters a mysterious tattooed man traveling with a child, Mimir realizes that his days of advising the gods are nowhere near over.

Profession… advisor to Odin, the King of the Gods. However, in time Mimir learned that Odin is perhaps the cruelest god of all, and that even his level of wisdom would not be enough to deter the Allfather from his path of vengeance.

Challenge… establishing peace between the realms. Although Mimir’s state of living after being freed by Kratos is less than preferable, he shares a goal with his savior: to travel to the long-lost realm of Jotunheim, and uncover the secrets of the giants, whose disappearance from Midgard long ago is one of the scarce gaps in his knowledge. Mimir believes learning their story may be the only way to prevent Ragnarok, the ancient prophecy foretelling the twilight of the gods, and the destruction of the world.

Personality… witty, clever, and most of all, kind. Although the reason Odin hunts Kratos and his son is unknown to him, Mimir is determined to aid the strangers in reaching the realm of Jotunheim. Through his stories and knowledge of the gods and giants, Mimir proves to be imperative in helping Kratos navigate the nine realms.
