Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew Up… in New York City. Miles was an unassuming clarinetist/health-food store owner (his shop was called the “Happy Carrot”) living in Greenwich Village. Though things changed for him when he checked into St. Vincent’s hospital in 1973, expecting to undergo an operation for a peptic ulcer.

Living… in the 22nd century. Miles expected to wake up in New York City, but he has found himself living 200 years after the date of his surgery. Miles was accidently cryogenically frozen in some tightly wrapped tinfoil and woke up in a dystopian version of the United States.

Profession… fighter for The Underground, a resistance movement trying to free the U.S. from its police dictatorship. Miles, somewhat of a meek and unassuming man, is judged to be the perfect soldier in the fight for freedom, as he has no biometric data. Though unbeknownst to the rebels, Miles is and always will be a pacifist. As he puts it, “I’m not really the heroic type. I was beat up by Quakers.”

Relationship Status… falling for the futuristic beauty, Luna Schlosser. Luna is a typical citizen of 22nd century America: she is a pleasure-obsessed aesthete living in a world that caters to her desires in order to make her politically complacent. Her favorite futuristic device is her household “Orgasmatron.”

Challenge… toppling the brutal dictatorship that’s been ruling America, and getting the beautiful Luna Schlosser in his clutches. It appears that Miles may have an easier time accomplishing the former – Luna doesn’t want to have anything to do with the bumbling time-traveller.

Personality… neurotic, meek, and health-obsessed. Miles can’t be the savior that The Underground wants him to be. He’s too self-obsessed and too idealistic to be a warrior. He’d prefer to just return to his analyst’s office instead. Complains Miles, “I haven’t seen my analyst in 200 years. He was a strict Freudian. If I’d been going all this time, I’d probably almost be cured by now.”
