Character Analysis

(Avoiding Spoilers)

Grew up... in the 1970s. Max met Sam (a 6-foot-tall dog) as a child, and they have been best friends ever since. Max prefers to call his species “lagomorphs,” even though “bunny rabbit” is just as accurate.

Living... on the road. Sam and Max work as “freelance police officers” – a job that takes them everywhere from Louisiana to beyond time and space. The only real constants are that they drive a 1960 DeSoto Adventurer and share an office in New York.

Profession... freelance police officer, with his partner Sam. Their badges are fake, but their commitment to justice isn’t. For a modest fee you can have your own pair of investigators, enforcers, or even vigilantes.

Interests… violence. Max believes that the best solution is often the simplest, and the simplest solution is usually pulling a trigger. He delights in mayhem – a passion that’s easy to indulge with his luger pistol and latent psychic powers.

Relationship Status... single. As a teen-ager, Max was forced to kiss Sam’s cousin during a game of spin the bottle. This scarred him so much he swore off girls (of whatever species) completely. However, he does have a strong, almost co-dependent relationship with Sam.

Challenge... solving mysteries. Sam and Max have taken on countless seemingly impossible mysteries. They’ve investigated circus freaks and encountered ancient extra-dimensional gods. But they always find a way to get to the bottom of the case.

Personality... hyperactive, impatient, impulsive, and self-indulgent. This makes him the perfect foil to the more passive, laid-back Sam. However, even when they fight, Max respects Sam enough to let him take the lead when necessary. Their balance and teamwork is what makes them so effective.
