Overview... a literary scholar on a quest. Like Indiana Jones, Maud is after a treasure which might not be gold, but is just as valuable: a series of lost letters detailing a relationship between famed Victorian poets Randolph Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte. With her partner, young Ash scholar Roland Mitchell, Maud must sift through letters, poems, and diaries to unravel the truth– before someone else beats her to it.
Personality... reserved, intelligent, and deeply vulnerable. With her imposing beauty and achievements, Maud may come off as icy, but there is heartbreak at the center of her reserve. But as she works with Roland to uncover the affair between Ash and LaMotte, Maud begins to find alarming similarities between LaMotte's relationship with Ash and her own relationship with Roland.

After coming across hints of a long-buried and potentially explosive secret in the poets' letters and journals, Maud and Roland join forces to track their subjects' movements from London to Yorkshire to Brittany, tracing clues embedded in poems and hunting down evidence in dusty archives and in a freshly opened grave. Their eagerness to uncover the truth draws the two lonely scholars together, but what they discover will have implications they could not have imagined.
